What if Business was a game?

What if it was like checkers and the winner gets more pieces. Or maybe it was like horse shoes where points are added up and there is the winner and the loser(s) simply high five the winner and move on to the next match. Or maybe even easier, what if business was like hopscotch where rocks and sticks are thrown around for a specific but fun reason?

Well it is. Business is a game if you would like to think of it that way. Many people and business books will allow you to believe or instruct you to believe that business is a struggle, a battle, a war to be won by decimating the competition. My clients do not think of business this way. They have found the fun in business by taking the battle out of the equation and allowing themselves and their employees and clients to INVENT the game and the rules with them.

When business is not a game it feels real, it is a struggle and people suffer. Do you suffer at work or in your work? Then perhaps you are experiencing what I mean and you may be missing the fun in it. I am referring to some ill-conceived notion that work and business life MUST be a struggle. I think we inherited this thought process and like a big piece of bait on a hook we swallowed it, hook, line and sinker as they say. This is important because NOT ONE of my clients said that they got into business to suffer more. We swallowed the notion years ago when we were unaware and doing our best to fit in and survive. We wanted that job when we were younger and would have done anything to have it, apparently getting it also meant that we also bought into the notion of work being a four letter word.

Flash forward to present day. Kids coming out of school today wanting to enter the workforce are bringing something new with them. That is determination. They are determined NOT to suffer, not to work in a slave shop, not to work long hours unless they want to, they are determined to have fun and are not only determined they actually expect to have fun with conditions that work for them and make a whole bunch of money in the process. rework coverrework back Business for most is NOT a life and death decision. Period. Most of you think that you do mission critical work. Not true. Please understand that if you fall off the face of the earth, that someone else will simply fill your shoes. Now is the time to INVENT your rules in business, even if you work for someone else. The fun in the game comes from a declaration of wanting to have fun, Start there. What I have done with many clients is to help them construct a specific plan to invent THEIR game in business.
